My new work-in-progress (title to be determined) is a not typical murder mystery. I can't explain that in more detail without giving spoilers.

The main character 20-year-old college student, Ashley Goodson, goes to school in Chicago and has been angry with her mother for moving them from Boston to neighboring Rhode Island for no good reason. After refusing the come home for the winter holidays, her mother finally convinces Ashley it is imperative she comes because she has something extremely important to tell Ashley. That worries Ashley, ans she makes plans to come to Rhode Island for a weekend.

But Ashley will not find out what that something important was, because when she gets to the new apartment, her mother is dead. 

As it runs out, Ashley's boyfriend, Ashok, is a criminal justice major and convinces Ashely not to be so sure her mother's death was by natural causes. 

And so Ashley's investigation begins.
